NEW: SKELETON PRESS COMICS!

SKELETON PRESS COMICS

COMICS BY COLTON FOX

Colton Fox is proud to announce his latest contributions to the independent community newspaper, the Skeleton Press.

For issue 12, Colton was asked to contribute a single-panel comic to accompany an article related to new sustainable waste management projects in Kingston. Colton repurposed a concept from a commission that depicted stacked food of impossible proportions and incorporated that concept with stacked objects. Colton is pleased with how tall the image was printed, as it allowed viewers to enjoy all the secrets and humor hidden in the illustration

For issue 13, Colton was invited to create a half-page comic that focused on the Kingston music scene. Colton decided to revisit the hyper-reality of his Gorilla Gardeners comic and depicted the Wolfe Island music festival in a very literal sense. The Neutral Wolfe Hotel banner is a play on both the band Neutral Milk Hotel and the Wolfe Island Hotel which was asked to be included. Colton also took liberties with the depiction of the Wolfe Island Ferry by drawing it as a tugboat, while the exterior of the Royal Tavern was faithfully depicted.

Colton is proud to contribute to the Skeleton Press as he loves the printed medium, contributing to the history of newspaper comics as well as the accessibility and community that comes from a free locally distributed newspaper. He looks forward to contributing to their Fall Issue after the Skeleton Press’ summer break.

Skeleton Press mission statement:

“What started as an informal chat about the politics of a neighbourhood in transition led to the founding of this newspaper. We are seeking a broader, more inclusive conversation that captures the vibrancy and diversity of the neighbourhood. We are interested in how an “old school” newspaper can communicate differently than digital publishing, and how the act of distributing the physical object can build community.

We hope tattered copies of The Skeleton Press can be passed from hand to hand, sparking conversation with neighbours over the fence or at the corner store, and strengthening our sense of place and each other. We believe in the power of sharing stories and telling a good yarn.

Please mark up your copy – write your thoughts on neighbourhood matters, ask a question, share what’s important to you about this community. Then give it to a friend or neighbour, leave it on the table at the café, drop it in someone’s mailbox or book box. This is meant to be a shared experience, a community-builder, and a conversation starter”
