SKELETON PRESS ANNOUNCEMENT
TABLOID EDITORIAL COMIC
Colton Fox is excited to announce that he will be the regular cartoonist for the Skeleton Press starting with issue 10 (Summer 2022). The Skeleton Press is a free quarterly community newspaper presented by The Skeleton Park Arts Festival. It is distributed locally in Kingston, Ontario. Digital copies of all issues are made available on their website.
Colton Fox was tasked by the editor to create a comic focused on the guerilla tree planting movement in Kingston. After much research and interviewing various members of the Kingston agricultural community, Colton found little information on the subject. He turned this frustration into inspiration by mythologizing the tree planters as enigmatic Gorillas to make the comic both educational and informative to adult readers as well as fun and engaging to younger readers.

“What started as an informal chat about the politics of a neighbourhood in transition led to the founding of this newspaper. We are seeking a broader, more inclusive conversation that captures the vibrancy and diversity of the neighbourhood. We are interested in how an “old school” newspaper can communicate differently than digital publishing, and how the act of distributing the physical object can build community.
We hope tattered copies of The Skeleton Press can be passed from hand to hand, sparking conversation with neighbours over the fence or at the corner store, and strengthening our sense of place and each other. We believe in the power of sharing stories and telling a good yarn.
Please mark up your copy – write your thoughts on neighbourhood matters, ask a question, share what’s important to you about this community. Then give it to a friend or neighbour, leave it on the table at the café, drop it in someone’s mailbox or book box. This is meant to be a shared experience, a community-builder, and a conversation starter”
